Just a little giddy good news to help ring in the new season of Smallville, which starts tomorrow night.

Reliable insiders tell me—and the CW confirms—that James Marsters (swoon, Buffy's Spike) is returning for four episodes of the superseries during the new season.

We last saw Marsters's character, Dr. Milton Fine (aka Brainiac), in Smallville's fifth season finale.

While it's unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he's reprising the exact same character, he's returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January. He also appears on CBS' Without a Trace this season.

Now I might actually watch Smallville regularly again.

Don't you just hate how you can't edit comments you've posted? But I'm totally with you. I need a little Brainiac to stomach all the Clana they're forcing everyone to watch (again!).

I swear AlMiles said something around the end of season 5 that Clana was pretty much done and over with and then two seasons later it's back. *headdesk*

so James will be on 3 shows this season: Torchwood, Smallville, and Without a Trace. he is all over the place :) i can't wait to see him return on SV and i'm looking forward to him on Torchwood (i don't watch WaT)

I don't normally watch WaT but I'm tivoing the premiere tomorrow night anyway. Now I just have to find out when his episode of Torchwood will air. I've never had a chance to watch the show, no matter how much I've wanted to, so I don't have any clue when it airs normally.

i believe S2 of Torchwood starts in January but only on BBC. i think the States are only now airing S1 on BBCAmerica.
