As this weekend is shaping up to be very long and tiring (taking care of noisy, yet lovable, little kids will do that to you) I wanted to post this early.

A big Happy Birthday to [personal profile] velvetwhip! I hope you have a great day! :)  I wrote you this little pressie, it's not much but hopefully you'll like it.

He knew.

Sitting there, surrounded by her friends as they all supposedly listened to Buffy talk battle strategy, his eyes never left her, and so she knew. The jig was up.

Hands fidgeting nervously in her lap, Willow longed to reach out for Tara’s reassuring grasp, but she knew she wasn’t welcome. Tara may be sitting beside her, may glance at her on occasion and smile fleetingly, but she hadn’t forgiven her yet. Until then there could be no handholding, no hugs, no kisses, nothing.

But at that moment, with Spike’s heavy glare weighing her down, she wished that Tara would slide her hand onto the cushions of the couch in that small space that separated them like an invitation.

Her hands remained steadfastly still.

Willow couldn’t turn away from his icy blue eyes, no matter how much she wanted to, and as a slow, arrogant smirk spread across his lips she wished she could wipe it off his face. She probably could literally do that, just mumble a little spell and poof, no more smirk. Heck, if she tried hard enough there would probably be no more Spike. But she didn’t do it.

After all, magic is what got her into this mess in the first place.

She was supposed to be the good girl, Buffy’s go-to gal. She had made them all a promise to stop using magic, and when Willow made a promise she was supposed to keep it. But she wasn’t perfect; she had made her share of mistakes. In fact lately she had been making a whole lot of them.

And now Spike knew.

She didn’t know how, but it was plainly obvious by the look on his face that he knew she was back on the magic.

It was only the sound of Buffy calling her name, a wary expression on her face when she noticed the unblinking stare between her and Spike, which finally stole her attention away from his telling gaze. She answered whatever question the Slayer had in a monotone voice, the sinking feeling in her stomach worsening by the second.

When her gaze flitted back to the now darkly amused grin on Spike’s face she knew she would have to do something to keep him quiet. The real question was how far she would be willing to go just to protect her dirty little secret.
